Those who have signed this memorial have made allusion to the unfortunate occurrences that have lately taken place at the Post Office, which I have already had occasion to report to Your Lordship.
It is idle to deny that had greater supervision been exercised in that Department, what took place would probably have been prevented. But I believe the principal fault of Mr. Lister consisted in placing too great a trust in one in whose honesty he had implicit confidence, and I should be sorry were this fact in any way to prejudice those who in other respects are considered worthy of sympathy.
